Women, Children and Senior Citizens Minister Bhagwati Chaudhary has said that women investors should be encouraged in the energy sector.
During the session on integration of environment, social and governance and gender equality in the energy sector under the Himalayan Hydro Expo organized by Independent Energy Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN), Minister Choudhary expressed concern about the low number of women investors in the energy sector.
Nepal has been working for women's empowerment for a long time, she said that women's participation is gradually increasing in all sectors. Basically, after the promulgation of the constitution, 33 percent women's participation in the political sector was ensured, but there was no increase in other sectors.
The hydropower project is a long-term plan and it takes a lot of budget, so it will take time to start.
Minister Choudhary said that hydropower project is not only a plan, but environment, biodiversity, He said that it is also a sensitive area because it has a direct relationship with the lives of local citizens. "Environment protection, the life of the local community should also be taken care of, so it is imperative to pay attention to everything," she said.
In order to increase women investors and leaders in the energy sector, Minister Chowdhury said that it is necessary to increase the participation of 16 percent women in the energy sector.
