Discussion on One Health concept in Chitwan

The one health concept, its impact and prevention measures have been explored with Chitwan National Park affiliated organizations, civic leaders and local government representatives. Officials participating in the program pointed out that Nepal is at high risk of zoonotic diseases. The participants emphasized on preventing and reducing the risk of epidemics and health disasters caused by zoonotic diseases.

Dinesh Rupakheti, head of District Public Health Office, Chitwan, said that dengue has started appearing every three years since 2006. He has considered it necessary to find out the reason for this . Dengue first appeared in Nepal in 2004. At the same time, it has been seen every year since the first case was confirmed in Chitwan.

Rupakheti clarified that dengue is spreading at the community level. Chief Rupakheti, pointing to the investigation conducted in Chitwan, said that most of the cases were found in Dire. Chief Rupakheti said that proper management of the environment is necessary to prevent the growth and development of mosquitoes. He said that it is not possible to prevent dengue in the current situation and it is necessary to spread the word from the school level.

Along with climate change and development, insect-borne diseases have started appearing even in the Himalayan districts. Chitwan National Park's senior veterinarian Dr. Vijay Kumar Shrestha said that zoonotic diseases are diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans and from humans to animals.

The One Health concept shows that human health is closely related to the health of animals and the surrounding environment . Dr. Shrestha clarified that 60 percent of diseases spread from animals to humans. The fact that the diseases that did not exist in the ancient times are appearing now has also shown that the One Health concept should be taken forward.
