While federal capital Kathmandu is busy welcoming Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, special preparations for Qatar are also underway in Chitwan. The female elephant Rudrakali and the male elephant Khagendra Prasad raised in Khorsor of Sauraha are going to Qatar, which is the main employment destination of Nepalese. The government is going to send these two elephants to Qatar as a gift.

Rudrakali and Khagendra flying Qatar

Conservation Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, who is the Information Officer of Chitwan National Park, said that Rudrakali and Khagendra Prasad were selected when they were asked to select a possible elephant to give as a gift to Qatar.

"We are preparing to send these two elephants," he said. According to the park administration, Rudrakali who went to Qatar has completed 6 years and 6 months, while Khagendra Prasad's age has completed 5 years and 7 months. Two and a half to three years after birth, elephants are trained at the breeding center in Khorsor to work in the mautei Isara and acclimatize them to the environment outside the forest. Both these elephants are trained. According to the park administration, according to Khagendra Prasad Mahute's style, 'guests' are proficient in the art of garlanding. The breeding center at Khorsor relies on wild male elephants for breeding. Rudrakali is the child of Pujakali and Khagendra Prasad Koshikali. According to park officials, the father of both is the wild male elephant 'Ronaldo'. According to conservation officer Tiwari, care should be taken in various parameters for elephants to be sent out. It should be seen whether it is suitable to be sent out in terms of age. "It is not possible to send an elephant that is very young. If you send an elephant that is older, it will not be able to blend into the new environment," he said.

According to the park administration, Qatari government officials also came to Chitwan twice to find out about the elephants being taken to Qatar. Park's senior veterinarian Dr. Vijay Shrestha's team also reached Qatar and returned after observing and studying the situation there. "The study tour of these two teams has led to the decision to take elephants and give them," said conservation officer Tiwari. The date of sending the elephant has not been confirmed. "Perhaps during the Amir's visit, the memorandum of understanding on sending elephants will be signed and the ministry will set the date for sending them," he said.

The park has recommended that the mahouts of these two trained elephants be sent to Qatar along with the elephants. Conservation Officer Tiwari has recommended that Maute be sent as elephants do not accept anything other than Maute. An elephant breeding center has been operating since 2042 in Chitwan Sauraha to North West Khorsor. According to Rampreet Yadav, the former Chief Conservation Officer of Chitwan National Park, who was active in the establishment of Chitwan National Park, earlier it was customary to buy baby elephants caught in the wild from Assam in India. Later there was a ban on buying and selling wild elephants.

"After that, a breeding center was opened in Khorsor for the purpose of giving birth to elephants needed for government work," he said. Rampreet said that initially two elephants, a male and a female, were gifted to this center from Thailand, and after four rhinos were treated by Nepal, 16 elephants were gifted from India. Tiwari, information officer of the park, said that gifts for two elephant breeding centers have also arrived from Burma (Myanmar). So far 62 elephants have grown from this center.
