The CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Center, which left the Kedar Karki-led government, tabled a resolution in the "special" session of the Provincial Assembly on Thursday.

Koshima Kichlo: resolution proposal to remove the Chief Minister is 'table'

UML chief whip Revathiraman Bhandari, the proposer of the resolution, said while tabling the motion in the parliament, "There is no option for Chief Minister Karki to resign and pave the way for the formation of an alternative government because he has lost support." Supporters of the

proposal include Ganesh Prasad Upreti, member of the provincial assembly of the Maoist Center and Kishore Chandra Dulal, member of the provincial assembly of the UML. They also insisted that Chief Minister Karki should resign as he is in the minority.

The provincial assembly held a special session on Thursday at the call of provincial chief Parshuram Khapung on the demand of UML and Maoist MPs. After about 5 months, the state assembly met for the first time. Provincial Chief Khapung ended the session on December 25. 58 MPs including 39 from UML, 13 from Maoist, 5 from RP and 1 from JSP are sitting on the opposition bench.

In the 93-member state assembly, only two parties, 29 MPs of Congress and 4 MPs of CPN (Unified Socialist) sat on the bench of the ruling party. Only 24 MPs are present on the ruling side. There are 52 people in opposition. 9 members of the ruling party and 6 members of the opposition were absent.

Meanwhile, the UML and the Maoist Center have "whipped" the MPs to vote in favor of the resolution. On Friday, the resolution proposal is being submitted to the parliament for decision.

Chief Minister Kedar Karki has reiterated that even if the resolution is passed, there is no obligation to resign from the post.
