In Mahottari, more than 7 lakh people are being given medicine against elephantiasis

Gupta said that the trained health workers from the health branches of all the municipalities and health associations of the district are going to the centers near the houses and preparing to administer the medicine.

Every year under the national campaign, medicine is being taken to prevent elephantiasis, but the disease is still spreading in Mahottari. Harinandan Mahato, Communicable Disease Focal Person of the Health Office, said that elephantiasis was identified as a growing problem in the district after taking medicine last year.

After the blood test of 600 people in Matihani Municipality, 21 people were found to have elephantiasis, Mahato said that this time, they are preparing to take medicine in a more effective manner so that no one is left behind in the district.

Elephantiasis is a communicable disease that makes people physically weak and disabled. Since most of the infections are asymptomatic, the health workers have requested everyone to be aware of this as there is a possibility of the disease easily spreading to other people in the community. Gupta, the head of the health office, also urged everyone to be aware of themselves and join the drug consumption campaign, as children under two years of age, pregnant women and pregnant women up to seven days old, sick patients can take this medicine.
