Minister by rebelling 'bullet' with the state and 'ballot' with the party

With the change of alliance in the federal government, Basnet was seen as decisive in the new alliance of UML-Maoist in Lumbini province to form a new government led by Maoist parliamentary party leader Mahara and to preserve the government led by Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary of Congress.

While studying in class 8, Basnet joined the Maoist student organization in Gulmi. Before becoming an independent candidate, he was the city president of Sunwal municipality of the Maoist party . From around 2056, while being active in student politics, he became a central member of All Revolutionaries.

He worked in the student organization of the Maoist People's War. Participated in the People's War. He went abroad in 075 . He returned to Nepal after spending 4 years in Italy and Portugal. He said that while he was abroad, he worked as the treasurer of the Migration Committee Europe, which is close to the Maoists.

After returning to Nepal, UML and Maoist party merged to form CPN. He said that at that time, he was the co-in-charge of Sunwal Nagar and after the division of the party, he worked as the Chairman of the Maoist Party of Sunwal.

After becoming a rebel candidate in the state assembly elections, Basnet was prosecuted by the Maoist party . "After the ticket was taken away in the last stage, I was forced to revolt from the Maoists and become an independent candidate," he said.
