Subas, who won a double gold medal at the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal in 2019, competed as an amateur for 7 years and achieved significant success under the Surya Nepal Tour, but he is going to play for the first time as a pro.

Subas has been playing regularly in the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) since this year. He has been playing on the Indian Tour since February after becoming a pro," said Deepak Acharya, Secretary General of Nepal Professional Golfers Association in a press conference on Monday.

By winning the All India Open Amateur Championship at the Kolkata Golf Club four months ago, the door was opened for Subas to play in the PGTI based on making history as a Nepali player. As an amateur player, he has already won 5 titles in the Surya Nepal Tour played by professionals. He won the Surya Nepal Challenge in 2019 for the first time on tour, won the Western Open in 2021, the NPGA Tour Championship twice in 2022 and 2023 and the Premier Golf Championship in 2023.

Kathmandu Open is the seventh tournament of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour season. The winner will get 1 lakh 20 thousand rupees. In the competition with a total of 7 lakh 3 thousand 500 cash prizes, the second to fifth place will get 82 thousand, 66 thousand, 55 thousand and 43 thousand respectively. The top 21 will get cash.

32 pro and 9 amateur players will compete in the four-day tournament. In the 72-hole tournament, the cut will be applied after 36 holes. Then the top 21 pro and amateur players will compete over 36 holes. Along with Suvas, Bhuvan Nagarkoti, Ravi Khadka, Dinesh Prajapati are considered as contenders for the competition.

Amateur Sadbhava Acharya is expected to give them a strong challenge. As an amateur player, Sadbhav has already won three titles of Surya Nepal Tour, out of which he won Surya Nepal Central Open and Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship this season.

Number one pro golfer Shukra Bahadur Rai will not play the Kathmandu Open due to a wrist injury.
