"Adding technical support to triathlon"

Casado, who is a member of the Public Affairs and Social Development Commission of the International Olympic Committee, arrived in Nepal on Thursday for a three-day visit.

She will be the chief guest at the Asian Cup and South Asian Triathlon Championship to be held in Pokhara on Saturday. In a conversation with Kantipur, 67-year-old Casado said, "Pokhara is not just a tourist town but a very suitable destination for triathlon." We are especially trying to increase technical support for the development of triathlon in Nepal.

Nepal is the biggest force in South Asian triathlon. At the last 13th South Asian Games, he had the highest performance in triathlon. Nepal has been continuously organizing South Asian Triathlon since 2015 and Asia Triathlon Cup since 2019.

More than 65 players from 15 countries will participate in this tournament in Pokhara. It is a recognized official event of the World Triathlon. This will be a sprint discipline. It will consist of a 750m swim, 20km cycling and a 5km run. In Standard Discipline, all this happens at twice the distance. Even though the organization of

triathlon itself is a complex process, there are sufficient technical manpower required for it in Nepal. Affected by the recent development and expansion of triathlon in Nepal, Casado Sadbhavana came to Nepal for a goodwill visit. It is believed that the competition of triathlon started in Nepal from the 90s.

After the establishment of the Nepal Triathlon Association in 2011, this sport has gained momentum. Casado, who has been emphasizing on women's empowerment through sports, made a rule that women's participation in triathlon should be at least 20 percent since she became president. Triathlon made its debut at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Youth and Sports Minister Virajbhakta Shrestha and Casado had a meeting at the Sports Ministry on Thursday. In the meeting, the development of Nepali triathlon and possible support and possibilities for the development of triathlon were also discussed. According to the ministry, there was also a discussion about the abundant potential of international investment and sports tourism.

This is the third visit of Casado, who has been the president of World Triathlon for the last 16 years. She came to Nepal 10 years ago. Secretary General of World Triathlon Antonio Arimani will also arrive in Nepal on Friday.
