Twelve years ago, most of the young people of the village were going to the Gulf countries for employment. Yuvraj Adhikari, 43 years old from Shivraj Municipality-4 Dakaiya, thought of going to Qatar for employment as he learned the work of an electrician.
After the visa came, when I inquired about the work and the price, I didn't think that I could earn that fast even if I went abroad. Suddenly he changed his mind and planned to raise chickens in the village.
He started raising layer chickens in the village for eggs, and now he is earning more than 10 lakh rupees annually by running a firm that produces more eggs in the district. After taking a loan in 2068, they started with 300 layers and reached 1200 chickens the next year. He has been rearing 5000 layers since 7 years after registering Adhikari Agro Product Firm. From his firm, 4500 eggs are delivered daily to Butwal, Bhairahawa, Pokhara and other markets. He also works to sell eggs himself.
He started selling eggs by keeping them on a bicycle/motorcycle, now he takes an auto loader to sell eggs. He said that he bought a loader for 7.5 lakh rupees last year with the income from the sale of eggs. He also bought a grain making machine last year for Rs 10 lakh.
I have almost paid off the loan of 6 million taken from the bank to make the cage system cage. I started making my own when I started spending more on the feed. "After buying a machine for 10 lakhs, I am making pulses at a low cost," he said. He has invested 50,000 rupees a year to insure all the chickens in the firm. He said that last year only the raw material for making grain was bought for 90 lakh rupees.
He is raising chickens in the cage system, but he said that even though the cost is high, many can be reared in a small space. He has kept 4 chickens in a cabin of one and a half/one and a half feet length/width mesh wire mesh. There are 940 cabins in 6 lines 95 feet long. Water and feed are delivered through an automatic system. As soon as the beak touches the stream, water falls. Eggs also fall and accumulate in one place.
