Five people died on the spot when a tractor accident occurred in Melekh rural municipality on 12th Chait. Two people were injured in another tractor accident at Suydi in Ward 7, Nandegada. On the 29th of Chait, 2 people were seriously injured in a tractor accident on the Toli-Binayak road section while going to Toli from Binayak market.
On February 9 A child died when a jeep number 1 Jh 429 crashed near Amrukh in Chowrapati rural municipality-5 of Achham. 15 people were injured. According to police station Siudi, the jeep fell down about 300 meters from the road while going from Lungra to Sanfebagar.
On October 8, one person died in a jeep accident in Banubatta of Mangalsen municipality-13 settlement. According to the police, the jeep going from Basti towards Mangalsen broke down and met with an accident. Transport businessman Dinesh Thapa died in the accident.
On July 7, 1 person died on the spot when a tractor carrying goods met with an accident at Kalikasthan turn of Panchdeval Vinayak Municipality. More than 18 people were seriously injured.
These are only a few representative cases of people who died in road accidents on the rural roads of Achham. According to the District Police Office, in Achham in three financial years 27 people have died in 89 vehicle accidents. In these accidents, 37 people were seriously injured and 174 people were slightly injured.
Road accidents have increased on roads built without meeting standards in mountainous geography. Narrow and unpaved roads, carelessness of drivers, tendency not to check the condition of vehicles are considered to be the main causes of accidents.
According to Achham police chief DSP Santosh Pathak, the main reasons for the increase in road accidents are driver negligence, unlicensed drivers, over-capacity passengers, and drunken driving.
'Carrying passengers on rural roads, driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol,' he said, 'Recently, there have been many incidents due to speeding of cars and motorcycles.'
Without technical study Khadk Bahadur Dhami, Engineer of Mellekh Rural Municipality, said that accidents also occur due to the constructed roads. Before constructing the road, a detailed survey and technical study should be done. But that does not happen," he said. "The grade is not matched when the road is built. The locals are also uncooperative thinking that the land will be lost.'
The tendency of randomly digging roads without following technical aspects and standards is promoting accidents.
